How To Avoid The Halloween Hangover!!

I have no crazy theory on how to avoid the Halloween Hangover. The Snickers, Milky Ways and Rees’s Peanut Butter Cups are inevitably going to pile up around us. My plan remains the same as how I avoid eating bad foods on a day to day basis. I simply dont keep ice cream, chocolate, or sugary treats in my house at all, because if they are around, they will find their way to my belly.

If you have children, I know it may be hard to avoid the plethora (I didn’t mean to scare you with that S.A.T word) of candy that will linger in your house over the next week but the only thing I can truly tell you is to throw it away. I promise you won’t regret it, you will probably forget it was even there by the weekend. More than likely that sluggish feeling will set in within a few days and you will regret eating a “couple pieces” a day which if we are honest with each other turns into like 10+ pieces a day. So save yourself the trouble and the calories and just throw it away… This also give you an opportunity to be an example for your family and show them what living a healthy life is all about.

Ok, so I don’t really want to be that “Health Drill Sergeant” that has no fun and does not participate in the festivities, but I have personally set a goal for myself this year not to partake in the surplus of sugary treats. However, if you must indulge, I would choose 5-8 pieces of candy, enjoy them tonight and move on. Choose your favorites and throw the rest out.

So how do you avoid the Halloween Hangover…. “If it stays out of your house, it will stay out of your belly”

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Stay Strong and Be Blessed!!!

Why Do We Crave Junk Food

Good news!!! There is actually a real reason why our bodies crave junk food… wait for it…. wait for it… wait for it… It’s because your body is lacking nutrients. Yes, your body is actually interpreting your cravings as a deficiency for a certain nutrient. For example, when you are craving chocolate, your body is really just in need of magnesium (which is found in a cacao bean)

I could go into way more scientific reasons of why our bodies crave junk foods, but I won’t bore you. The 2 main reasons are, processed foods & poor farming conditions, which have removed nutrients that once packed our produce. So even though we feel full and are actually more full than necessary, our bodies are still craving essential nutrients… If you want to just get right down to it, you need eat the right things and fuel your body with the proper nutrients. This will help eliminate cravings, which leads to overeating/ poor eating.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, fast foods and packaged/processed foods will only fill you up, not fuel you up (which is also why you are sluggish). Its like filling your gas tank up with chocolate milk. Yes, its full alright. But it is the wrong type of liquid to fuel your car with what it needs to work properly. And guess what? Your car will run further on 1 gallon of gas than it will on 20 gallons of chocolate milk. Same with your body, it will be better fueled by small amounts of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins than it will on 50 chicken wings, soda and a side of mozzarella sticks, or #5 meal w/ extra cheese.

What I am trying to say is your body is one of the more intricate and complex machines on this planet. You need to take care of it, give it rest, work it out and most importantly fuel it properly so your body doesn’t break down on you.

Here is a list of things your body thinks its craving when its really craving something more important.

4 Tips for the 4th of July!!

4 tips to enjoying a healthy 4th of July!!!

1. Workout in the morning. This will allow your body to burn a few extra calories throughout the day as you enjoy time with friends & family… Plus you wont get tired and “forget”

2. Eat healthy before the party. Eating healthy before you go to a BBQ will help curb cravings and keep you from snacking. I’m not saying don’t eat the food at the BBQ, but maybe just taste it.There is no need to over indulge in the sugary treats or chips.

3. Drink lots of water. Drinking water will help flush your system and keep you feeling full. Not to mention you will stay hydrated out in the hot summer sun.

4. Forget the leftovers. There is no need to bring the left overs home, even if it is for the kids, grandpa or Uncle Buck who is staying with you for the next couple of weeks. They will either not eat it or you will feel guilty about bringing the leftovers home and you will eat them yourself, thus setting you back more than just the calories from the BBQ party.

Bonus: HAVE FUN, Relax and tell your friends how amazing Shakeology is haha wink
